Family Goniasteridae

Тело сильно уплощенное, обычно с массивным диском и короткими лучами. Верхние и нижние маргинальные пластины хорошо развиты, массивные, расположены супротивно. Спинная сторона покрыта гранулами, сгруппированными на подобие паксилл. Присутствуют простые двустворчатые или гребенчатые педицеллярии.  

Marginal plates large and distinct, not covered by a thick skin; edge of disk vertical, not sharp. Dorsal side covered with flat spines (or grains), arranged in the form of paxilla, or with scattered large spines surrounded by grains.

Marginal plates large and distinct. No odd interradial marginal plate. Dorsal side flattened, with short, flat spines, arranged like paxilla, or with spines surrounded by grains. Pedicellaria alveolate or valvate, in some forms very large. Papula as a rule only in the radial areas. No recurved hyaline spine on jaws. Genital organs in the interradii, not passing into the rays.
