Rostrum a projection of the front of the carapace; first two legs long and stout, larger than the rest, with long chelae, the long fingers pectinate on cutting edge; carapace mid-dorsally carinate forming a hump on front half, the carina anteriorly sulcate; mandible with small slender two-segmented palp; no branchiostegal spine.
The eight known species of the genus are pelagic in deep water. (Squires, 1990)
